Frustrated Stanfield plans test runs on new Camaro

There wasn’t any miraculous performance turnaround Sunday for Greg Stanfield and the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Camaro Pro Stock team as he absorbed his third consecutive first-round loss, this one coming in the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals.

“The car is running slow . . . like it has a governor on it,” said a frustrated Stanfield of the team’s performance with the new Camaro body after its first four events. “We have been running consistent times, but they are too slow.”

He attempted to make up for some of that with a .040-second reaction time against Greg Anderson’s .056, but Anderson pulled away, winning in 6.624 seconds at 207.46 mph to 6.665 at 207.46. He also went on to win the event.

“We are going to test for a few days next week,” Stanfield said. “We have to sort out things to see what it looks like. Sometimes it’s not good to be the first team to get something new. We’re kind of the guinea pig for this body right now, but we’ll fight through it.”
