HRA NEWS: K&N HORSEPOWER CHALLENGE PEOPLE’S CHOICE VOTING BEGINS THIS WEEKEND AT O’REILLY AUTO PARTS NHRA WINTERNATIONALS



People’s Choice voting for the K&N Horsepower Challenge, a special bonus event for NHRA Pro Stock teams, opens Thursday, Feb. 14, the first day of racing for the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.
               
NHRA fans who want to vote for their favorite Pro Stock driver who is not already qualified for the lucrative event that will be contested Saturday, April 6 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway during the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals, can go here to register their vote: http://www.nhra.com/knhpchallenge.aspx.  
               
The K&N Horsepower Challenge is a unique race within a race that pits the seven Pro Stock racers who have accumulated the most qualifying points since the last specialty event  (July 2012), and one driver selected by fans in an online vote. The K&N Horsepower Challenge will feature three rounds of racing and the winner will earn $50,000.
               
In addition to voting for the eighth driver, fans can also participate by entering the K&N Horsepower Challenge Sweepstakes athttp://www.knfilters.com/register/KN_HP_CS.aspx.  From the entries received, eight finalists will be chosen who will receive a trip for themselves and a companion to Las Vegas for the 14th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals, April 5-7.
               
On the day of the event, each finalist will be randomly paired with one of the eight qualified drivers; the fan finalist whose driver wins the race will take home the 2013 K&N Horsepower Challenge special-edition Toyota Tacoma, a unique midsize pickup created by Toyota Racing Development and K&N Filters for this event with modifications which include a supercharger, custom wheel and tire package, intake system, shocks, and springs. The K&N Horsepower Challenge Sweepstakes ends at 6 p.m. (ET) on March 8, 2013.
               
The following seven NHRA Pro Stock drivers are currently qualified for the K&N Horsepower Challenge: Allen Johnson, Jason Line, Erica Enders-Stevens, Greg Anderson, Mike Edwards, Vincent Nobile and V. Gaines.
               
Drivers who are currently eligible for the fan vote include: Ron Krisher, Jeg Coughlin, Warren Johnson, Larry Morgan, Shane Gray, Kurt Johnson, Dave Connolly, Greg Stanfield, Steve Kent, Chris McGaha, Mark Martino, JR Carr, Ronnie Humphrey and Rickie Jones, among others.
               
NHRA Pro Stock drivers will earn qualifying points for the K&N Horsepower Challenge at the first three NHRA Mello Yello Series events of the 2013 season: Pomona, Calif.; Phoenix and Gainesville, Fla.
