Fresh off his NHRA Funny Car victory Sunday in Topeka, Kan., Jack Beckman will extend the celebration to next week when he visits sponsor Sandvik Coromant at Fair Lawn, N.J., to help raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Sandvik Coromant, the world's leading producer of tools for the metal cutting industry, will host an employee event geared toward raising money for injured veterans on Wednesday that includes an employee cookout.
The event will feature the 315-mph yellow and red Sandvik Coromant Funny Car that Beckman will drive June 1-3 in the Toyota NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in nearby Englishtown, N.J.
"Our initial goal was to build some excitement for the big race weekend coming up, and nothing can do the trick quite like a fully equipped Funny Car," said John Israelsson, Sandvik Coromant president of Market Area Americas.
Beckman, who won the NHRA Funny Car title on May 20 in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, will be at Sandvik Coromant along with his race car, team transporter and DSR senior vice president Mike Lewis.
"It's cool to have an outreach program like this for our marketing partners where the employees at a company investing in motorsports sponsorship can connect to that effort," Beckman said.
"They can get up close and touch 'their' car and ask me whatever they want. Then they can come out to the race and watch 'their' crew work on 'their' car."
Beckman, a cancer survivor, is a former sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He has a strong desire to give back to communities that have affected his life and Sandvik Coromant is helping.
"We see this as a great opportunity to thank Jack Beckman for making the trip and representing us in the driver's seat, so Sandvik will be making a donation in his name to his charity of choice, the Wounded Warriors Project," Israelsson said.
Beckman added, "For us to be able to make this connection and involve a fund-raiser to help the Wounded Warrior Project immediately put us all on the same page."
